More Thai SMEs encouraged to invest overseas

BANGKOK, September 24 (TNA) - The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) says that local small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are encouraged to invest more on overseas markets, as Thailand and fellow members in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are preparing for the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015.
BOI Secretary General Atchaka Sibunruang Brimble revealed that BOI is advising and inviting more Thai SMEs to invest in China, Russia and several other countries.
The BOI chief made the remarks, as five groups of Thai SMEs are participating in a four-day international trade fair in China's Guangzhou Province, starting from September 22, acknowledging that Thailand's participation in the trade event is considered a significant stepping stone for Thai SMEs to hold trade and investment talks with Chinese and other foreign business operators.
Atchaka said that BOI branch offices overseas will conduct a feasibility study for the Thai SMEs before their investment overseas.
Meanwhile, Thai Industry Minister Wannarat Channukul has ordered the BOI to adjust requirements for granting its promotional privileges, giving priority to potential global investors. (TNA)
