Thailand to improve labour skills for AEC
BANGKOK, September 23 (TNA) - Thai Labour Minister Padermchai Sasomsap has ordered labour ministry officials to improve labour skills to prepare for free labour movements when the ASEAN Economic Community starts in 2015.
On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Labour Ministry, Padermchai told his officials that preparation for the AEC was his first priority, saying the Labour Ministry would be seeking over 10 billion baht from the government next year for the operations of its departments.
Under the plan, focal areas would include developing the e-services systems of the Employment Department and the Skill Development Department, aimed at helping workers to meet market demands.
The Labour Ministry would also work on improving workers’ skills with affiliate agencies such as the Office of the Vocational Education Commission under the Education Ministry. It would also cooperate with the Corrections Department under the Justice Ministry to provide inmates with vocational training, to make them efficient workers after they serve their terms. (TNA)
