Thai DPM to follow-up investigations into death of red shirt protesters
BANGKOK, September 22 (TNA) - Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has vowed to closely follow-up on investigations into the death of red shirt protesters during the political unrest between April 10 and May 19 last year.
On Thursday, family members of the deceased submitted their grievance letters to the government, demanding further post-mortem examinations on the 13 bodies including that of Japanese cameraman Hiroyuki Muramoto, to unravel the cause of their deaths.
The demand also called for the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to quickly forward previous autopsy results to the police, to make way for further investigations.
Chalerm said he will forward the letters to the police so that they can coordinate with the court to ensure justice for the bereaved families, who have been disappointed by the slow investigation process recently.
The Thai deputy premier acknowledged the issue is beyond the scope of his duty but promised to closely follow-up on its progress, saying the government will ensure fair investigation and those guilty will be exposed in the near future. (TNA)
