Thai industry confidence index drops in August
BANGKOK, September 22 (TNA) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) reports that the Thai industry confidence index recorded a monthly drop to 102.5 points in August.
FTI President Payungsak Chartsutipol said on Thursday several factors contributing to the lower index were the decreases in orders, sales, production numbers and operating results, which were caused by concerns over rising production costs and interest rates, the baht appreciation, flooding and the global economic fluctuation.
Nevertheless, Payungsak said the index stood above 100 points which reflected fair confidence among operators.
The FTI president said the figure was likely to rise in the next three months, along with anticipated increases in orders, sales, production and operating results.
Most operators demanded that the government work out effective measures to reduce the impact of its 300-baht daily minimum wage policy, solve labor shortages, stabilize politics and stimulate local consumption. (TNA)
