Public support needed for Thailand’s dam projects
BANGKOK, September 20 (TNA) - Thailand's His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has advised senior government officials to seek public support for five royally-initiated dams under construction.
The royal instruction was given Monday evening at Siriraj Hospital, where the beloved Thai monarch has been recovering.
According to the report, His Majesty told the officials to clarify the necessity for the dams, including their benefits, to people living in affected areas, and to garner their support for the projects.
During the royal audience, the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Theera Wongsamut and senior Royal Irrigation Department officials reported progress on the dam constructions, which are expected to help boost farming activities and generate hydro-electric power upon their completion. (TNA)
