Qatar's Sulphur Supplier Role in Focus at Petrochemicals Convention

Doha, September 21 (QNA) - Qatar International Petroleum Marketing Company's (Tasweeq) key role in fulfilling the needs of the global fertilizer sector came into sharp focus at the Second Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Fertilizer Convention held here.
Speaking on behalf of Tasweeq CEO Saad Al Kuwari, Sulphur Marketing Director Ibrahim Al Sulaiti who gave an over view of Qatar's role at a session entitled 'Qatar's role in the global fertilizer industry and its contribution towards fertilizer growth' during the three-day event.
The session highlighted Qatar's growing dominance in sulphur production and exports with the expected exports reaching 2.6 mtpa by 2019. With an expanding portfolio of clients across the globe, Qatar is projected to be a major player in the sulphur industry.
Al Sulaiti said, "The total global consumption of sulphur was estimated to be around 68 million tonnes in 2010 where the production of phosphoric acid accounted for 49% of all sulphur use while 87% was used for fertiliser, with the remainder in non-fertiliser applications."
More sulphur supplies would be required to support the increasing phosphate demand over the next five years, he added.
The convention was organised by the GPCA and co-organised by the CRU Group.
The gathering focused on a range of topics affecting continents like - Growth of the Fertilizer Industry in Volatile Markets; Financing the fertilizer sector in emerging markets; Fertilizer Business in Africa; Russian Fertilizer Landscape and Brazilian Fertilizer Outlook.
