Thai government increases funding for flood victims
BANGKOK, September 21 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says an additional 100 million baht will be allocated for every flood-hit province.
Yingluck called a meeting on Wednesday of relevant authorities including Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit, and Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi, to discuss flood solutions for Bangkok and nearby provinces.
Speaking at a press conference afterwards, the Thai premier said the flood situation in the Central Plains is of most concern because northern runoffs are now rushing into the region. However, she said she has remained optimistic about the situation as relevant agencies have already prepared measures to deal with the flood water.
Yingluck also said that there is no concern over the lack of relief funding, noting that the government has already given some provinces as much as 200 million baht each for flood relief.
She added that her government will also allocate 100 million baht more to each flood-hit province to help suffering residents, adding that it is ready to give more money if the additional funding is not enough. (TNA)
