Thai FM: Thaksin’s visit to Cambodia does not affect Thailand
BANGKOK, September 21 (TNA) - Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul says former premier Thaksin Shinawatra’s recent visit to Cambodia does not pose any negative impact on Thailand.
Surapong made the assurance on Wednesday in response to doubts pointed out by his predecessor Kasit Piromya.
Surapong said his ministry had examined Thaksin’s speech and actions in Cambodia and found no detrimental effects on Thailand.
Adding further justification on Thaksin’s travel, he said many countries around the world had been willing to invite Thaksin to deliver lectures despite his outstanding political charges.
The Thai foreign minister, acknowledging the Thai opposition’s attack on his administration’s failure to seek Thaksin’s extradition, said the previous government under the Democrat Party had also failed to do so.
However, he noted that upon returning from New York, he would discuss Thaksin’s extradition with the attorney-general and the Council of State. (TNA)
