S. Korean fishing boat caught by Japanese fisheries agency

JEJU, Sept. 23 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean boat that may have operated beyond its
permitted fishing grounds has been caught by Japanese authorities, the National
Federation of Fisheries Cooperative said Tuesday.
The Jeju chapter of the cooperative said the 29-ton Young-jin from Seongsan
carrying a crew of seven was intercepted by a Japan Fishery Agency vessel earlier
in the day.
The Jeju-registered boat was operating 50 miles south of South Korea's Geoje
Island, which places it within Japan's exclusive economic zone.
The South Korean consulate in Fukuoka, Japan has submitted a bond of 250,000 yen
(US$2,372) and pledged the necessary fine will be paid. The crew is to be
released from custody.
