PetroVietnam boosts investment in Quang Tri

Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) will help
central Quang Tri province develop a seaport system in My Thuy economic zone
and look into the possibility of building thermo power plants in the
province.

Under an agreement signed between PVN and the Quang Tri People's Committee
in Hanoi on Sept. 23, PVN will also study the feasibility of financial
services for clay and limestone mining projects to serve oil and gas
activities as well as investment in an oil and gas warehouse and trading
system in the province.

The cooperation with Quang Tri province is part of the group's long-term
development strategy, said PVN Chairman Dinh La Thang.

According to Chairman Le Huu Phuc of the Quang Tri People's Committee,
Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung has approved in principles
the building of My Thuy deep water seaport as a core of a sea-based economic
zone in the province.

The port will serve as an important link not only for the central region
but also the East-West corridor which runs from Quang Tri to Myanmar
through Thailand and Laos.-
