SEOUL, Sept. 23 (Yonhap) -- The chief of South Korea's 8-million strong veterans
association will head to Canada this week to meet officials working with South
Korean and Canadian veterans there, the group said Tuesday.
Park Seh-jik, chairman of the Korean Veterans Association, will leave Wednesday
for the city of Burnaby in the Vancouver Metro area, where he will meet with
Mayor Derek Corrigan to present a plaque expressing appreciation for his support
of South Korean and Canadian war veterans residing in the city, it said.
He will also pay a visit to the Korean War Monument at Burnaby's Central Park to
commemorate the hundreds of Canadians who were killed in the 1950-53 Korean War.
Park will return home Sunday.
Canada dispatched over 25,000 troops to Korea during the war. Over 300 of them
were killed while some 1,200 others were injured.
