TOURISM MINISTER OFTEN RECEIVES COMPLAINTS ABOUT FILTHY PUBLIC TOILETS

Tangerang, Indonesia, Sept 23 (ANTARA) - Culture and Tourism Affairs Minister Jero Wacik said he frequently receives cellular phone text messages from members of the public about filthy public toilets in the country.

"The complaints about filthy public toilets in Indonesia are directly addressed to me through SMS," Jero Wacik said at a function to dedicate public toilets at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport here on Tuesday.

He said public grumbling about lack of cleanliness at public toilets in Indonesia had become so strong that many people even address their complaints to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

The minister said public toilets at Soekarno-Hatta airport and other international airports in the country needed to be kept neat and clean as the airports were the gateways to Indonesia.

He said the first thing some 70 percent of international passengers do when they arrive at Indonesian airports was go to a toilet before making their way into the cities.

To give good impression to foreign visitors, Wacik said, airport management company PT Angkasapura should make every effort to keep public toilets at the airports clean and healthy.
