USFK plans Air Show to mark foundation of Korean Forces, U.S. Air Wing

SEOUL, Sept. 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korean and U.S. air forces will offer a rare
chance to the public to witness the power and strength of their joint forces next
month in a massive Air Show that will involve various aircraft of the combined
forces, the U.S. Air Force in Korea said Tuesday.
The air show, dubbed the Air Power Day, will be held Oct. 11-12 at a U.S. air
base in Osan, some 40 kilometers south of Seoul.
"The theme for this year's event is celebrating the 60th anniversaries of the
51st Fighter Wing and the Republic of Korea Armed Forces," the U.S. Air Force
said in a press release, referring to South Korea by its official name.
Among the aerial demonstrations will be a joint personnel recovery demonstration,
featuring A-10 Thunderbolt II and F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, AH-64D Apache
and UH-60G Blackhawk helicopters, as well as a F-18 Super Hornet single ship
demonstration, it said.
"The event features many aircraft displays from the U.S. and ROK inventories, as
well as displays of the Army patriot Missile system and various ROK Army air
defense artillery systems," said the press release.
Anyone who wishes to attend the event will be allowed to enter the U.S. base
through its pedestrian-only Doolittle Gate as long as they have proper
identification. Students will be required to bring their student identification
cards while non-South Korean spectators are advised to bring their passports, it
said.
