Doha 2017: "More than Just Great World Championships"
Brussels, September 16 (QNA) - The Doha 2017 Bid Committee, currently in Brussels for the final of the Diamond League, presented their proposed plans for the 2017 IAAF World Championships at a press conference today.
HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Chairman of the Doha 2017 Bid Committee and Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, opened the conference expressing the importance of the IAAF World Championships for Qatar.
Doha 2017 then presented a twofold plan; on the one hand to set new standards for the IAAF World Championships and on the other hands to use the World Championships to develop new solutions to further expand the sport all in partnership with the IAAF.
Among the elements presented during the press conference were:
Khalifa Stadium is the proposed venue for the World Championships; the stadium will be climate controlled through solar energy and be one of the most modern stadiums in the world in 2017.
The proposed concept for a spectacular evening marathon race along the waterfront of Doha.
Athletics City, the proposed athlete accommodation, which will offer luxury apartments, five star hotels, restaurants and entertainment facilities all fully reserved for the Athletes and IAAF during the Championships.
New plans for worldwide promotion and ticket sales with the aim of selling every seat for every session.
Announcement of the Doha 2017’ss interest in hosting the 2017 IPC World Championships in Athletics following the IAAF World Championships.

Doha 2017 submitted their proposed plans for the 2017 IAAF World Championships to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) on September 1st. The decisions will be made by the IAAF Council on November 11, 2011.
