POL: Only Pakistani troops have responsibility to take anti- terror actions
New York, Sept 22 PPI: Pakistan has strong commitment to fight terrorism but ``only its troops have responsibility to take anti-terror actions on its soil and any foreign troops crossing into its terrritory violate United Nations charter,'' President Asif Ali
Zardari said.
He voiced confidence Pakistan would be able to defeat menace of terrorism with
cooperation of its anti-terrorism partners.
``Pakistan is capable (of fighting terrorism) with help of the world, yes we are
capable,'' he told American NBC news channel in
interview recorded before his departure for New York to attend UN General Assembly
session.
``My heart goes out to the people. I want the world to understand that this is a
signal from terrorists. They are challenging
democracy of Pakistan and its people. They are challenging the world,'' he said and
strongly condemned car-bomb attack on Marriott Hotel in Pakistan capital on
Saturday, which claimed 53 lives and wounded 260 others.
Pakistan remains united with the world in combating terrorism. ``We are there to
stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the world, looking
terrorists in the eye. And we will fight them.''
President Zardari said fight against terrorism is Pakistan's war. ``As soon as we
came into the government we redefined whole
situation by calling it our war. It is a question for me to have political strength
to go to the people and tell them it is our
war.''
He stated only Pakistani troops have responsibility to carry out any anti-terrorism
action on Pakistani soil and urged United States
to share intelligence with Pakistan. ``We are already there, we will catch them,
give us intelligence and we will do job. It would be
better done by Pakistani forces.
``Our orders are clear not to allow any incursion of anybody in Pakistan. American
troops are coming, without letting us know,
without Pakistan's permission, they are violating UN charter. We will ask any
American troops crossing into its territory to leave
and confident that they would go,'' Zardari said.
