About 20,000 die of dengue virus annually across the globe

DASKA, September 14, 2011 (PPI): As many as 50 million people became victim of the dengue fever in the world and according to the latest statistics illustrated by the UNO and about 20,000 died of dengue virus every year around the globe.

Dr. Farah Kamran Medical Specialist Daska DHQ Civil Hospital disclosed this while addressing the participants of an anti-dengue fever awareness-raising seminar held here on Wednesday.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Sajjad Nabi Sayyan, Medical Officers Dr. Riffat Shafiq, Dr. Nuzhat Fiaz Awan, Dr. Muhammad Asif Mughal, DDO (Health) Daska Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Dr. Munim Javaid and representatives of several NGOs also attended the seminar.

Dr. Farah Kamran revealed that the fears of spreading dengue fever were rising in Asia especially in Pakistan day by day, adding that according to the World Health Organization (WHO) the main causes of spreading dengue fever were the increasing temperatures, heavy rains in some areas, floods and rapidly growing population.

She said that dengue was a specified virus and dengue infection spreads almost in those areas having hot climate and especially in urban areas. This mosquito called as dengue mostly attacks during the timings of dawn and dusk.

Dr. Riffat Shafiq Children Specialist said that the dengue fever affected patients should ensure the maximum use of boiled water, besides using honey in normally hot water. She added that the common use of fruits like oranges, guava, apple and Kalwanji and black pepper could also help prevent the fever, especially in growing children.

The speakers stressed the need for promoting awareness about the dengue fever in all segments of society especially among the students, enabling them to curb the menace once for all.
