Container truck, coach crash kills 16 in Nghe An Province
Nghe An (VNA) - Sixteen people were killed and 14 injured when a coach on Sept. 21 collided with a container truck in Dien Chau District, Nghe An Province, 270 km south of Hanoi .
Vo Minh Duc, chief administer of the Nghe An Provincial Roal Safety Board
who rushed to the scene shortly after the accident, said 14 people were
killed on the spot and two died en route to hospital.
He added that eleven out of the 16 dead have yet to be identified. The
injured are being traded at Hospital 115 in Vinh City .
The bus was en-route from Dac Lak Province when the accident
occurred.
The road safety board is working with Dac Lak authorities in an attempt to
find contact details of the victims.
Nghe An provincial authorities have given the families of victims 1-2
million VND each in a show of support, said Lu Van Tuong, deputy director of
Nghe An Police Department.
The coach driver, Vuong Thanh Quang, 30, from Quang Nam Province
received mild injuries and has been detained for further questioning.
The driver of the container truck has only been identified as Hung, 34,
from central Binh Dinh province and his surname is unknown as yet.
Vo Minh Duc of the road safety board said the section of road where the
accident occurred was in good condition and light rain was unlikely to have
caused the accident. "I would say one possibility is that for some reason,
the coach driver lost steering control and crashed head-on into the
container truck," Duc said.
The accident site caused traffic blockages for 10 hours before the
vehicles were towed to the Dien Chau District police station.-Enditem
