British Airways suspends operations to Pak
Islamabad, Sept 22 (PTI) British Airways has halted all
flights to Pakistan in the aftermath of the deadly suicide
attack on the Marriott Hotel in the federal capital that
killed 53 people, including two U.S. marines and the Czech
Ambassador to the country.
British Airways spokesman Sohail Rahman told reporters
that the airline had temporarily suspended its operations in
the country following the bombing, being described as the
worst ever in Pakistan.
The situation is being reviewed by British Airway's head
office in London and the airline is not in a position to give
a date for the resumption of services, he said.
The last flight from London to Islamabad, the only
destination in Pakistan served by the airline, operated
yesterday.
At least four foreigners, including the Czech Ambassador
and two US Marines, were killed in the attack. Several members
of the aircrew of the Saudi Arabian Airlines were among
foreign nationals injured in the deadly bombing.
A U.S. embassy official here said a third American, who
was a contractor for the state department was still
unaccounted.
Aircrew of many foreign airlines stayed at the Marriott,
which was a favourite gathering spot for foreigners. PTI RHL
