Vietnam, US education experts meet to deepen cooperation
Hanoi, (VNA) - The Vietnam-US Education Task Force convened its first meeting in Hanoi on Sept. 22 to discuss ways to broaden and deepen the two countries' cooperation in higher education.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Education
and Training Banh Tien Long said the Task Force members will discuss issues
mentioned in the agreement on the force's establishment signed during the
US visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in June.
The issues, according to him, including strengthened cooperation between
Vietnamese and US universities and colleges and a subsequent project to
build a Vietnam-US university in Vietnam .
The two sides will talk about increasing sources of scholarships with the
aim to raise the number of Vietnamese students, particularly those
purchasing master's and Ph.D degrees, at US universities.
A training programme to provide Vietnamese students with necessary skills to
serve the national industrialisation and modernisation will also be put on
the table, Deputy Minister Long said.
US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael W. Michalak said at the meeting
that he made education one of the top goals of the US Embassy.
"The meeting today to launch the Task Force is thus the latest and most
important step in the continuing effort to widen and deepen cooperation
between US and Vietnamese institutions involved in higher education," he
asserted.-Enditem
