Rupee gains further by 40 paise in early trade against dollar
Mumbai, Sep 22 (PTI) The rupee gained by forty paise
against U.S. dollar at Rs 45.42/44 in early trade at the
Interbank Forex market here Monday on sustained selling of
greenback from banks due to rise in equity market in spite of
mixed trend in crude oil prices.
World oil prices were mixed in Asian trade Monday as
investors reacted to moves by the U.S. to help investment
banks Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley survive a financial
crisis that has shaken global markets, dealers said.
New York's main contract, light sweet crude for October
delivery, was 16 cents lower at USD 104.39 a barrel.
Brent North Sea crude for November delivery rose 55
cents to USD 100.16.
In fairly active trade local unit resumed strong at
45.56/57 a dollar from the last weekend's close of 45.82/83
and firmed up further to 45.42/44 at 1100 hrs.
The rupee got a boost from rise in Asian equity markets
where the Indian benchmark Sensex firmed up by 69.76 points to
