Thai PM satisfied with talks with Indonesian President

JAKARTA, September 12 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra told journalists that she was happy with her talks with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta on Monday, when the two leaders agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand--with a new energy agreement expected in the near future.
Accompanied by her entourage, Yingluck landed in Jakarta at 9:15am on Monday for her one-day official visit to Indonesia. The first female Thai premier was officially received at the Indonesian Presidential House, where she then paid a courtesy call on the Indonesian President before having a plenary meeting with Indonesian authorities.
During her joint press conference with the Indonesian President, Yingluck proclaimed her visit to Jakarta a great success, as all-leveled bilateral talks were comprehensive and both countries agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in trade and other economic issues covering halal food, energy, fishery and tourism projects--all are the strong points of both countries.
The new Thai premier also praised Indonesia for its roles as the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), saying that Jakarta has outstandingly promoted the roles of the 10-nation ASEAN bloc, toward the establishment of the ASEAN Single Community by 2015, and that she hopes that the forthcoming ASEAN Summit in Bali this November will also be highly successful.
The Pheu Thai prime minister also thanked the Indonesian President for supporting and understanding Thai solutions to problems in the country's troubled deep South, expressing her appreciation to Indonesia as well for awarding scholarships to students in Thailand's Muslim-predominated far South and for cooperating with Bangkok under the framework of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
The Indonesian President then hosted a luncheon reception for the Thai prime minister and her entourage. The Thai prime minister later laid a wreath at the Indonesian National Monument and flew from Indonesia back to Bangkok at 2:30pm (local time). (TNA)
