Thai PM visits Indonesia

BANGKOK, September 12 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra left for Indonesia early Monday morning for a one-day official visit to the neighbouring country, her second-leg trip to other member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), aimed to introduce herself and her new administration, as well as to further strengthen ties and cooperation between the two ASEAN neighbours.
Accompanied by her entourage, Yingluck told reporters before her departure that she believes her trip to Indonesia, the current chair of ASEAN, will further enhance bilateral relations between Bangkok and Jakarta, leading to sound and greater cooperation in the 10-nation bloc as a whole in the future, including between Thailand and Cambodia, resulting in peaceful resolutions to unsettled border issues between the two neighbours.
Upon her arrival in Jakarta, the first female Thai premier met and held bilateral talks with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to discuss Thai and Indonesian cooperation in political, economic, social, cultural and security affairs, especially those involving in strategic partnership between the two ASEAN neighbours, coving, in particular, energy and halal food projects, as Indonesia, a key member country of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), can be a promising gateway for Thai halal food products to the world's largest Islamic bloc.
The new Pheu Thai Thai premier and her entourage then attended a luncheon reception, hosted by the Indonesian President and was later traveled to Indonesia's National Monument to lay wreaths in honour of the Indonesian heroes. The Thai premier is scheduled to return to Bangkok Monday evening. (TNA)
