Thai police nab two Lao drug smugglers

BANGKOK, September 12 (TNA) - A Lao couple was arrested Monday in Sikiew District of Nakhon Ratchasima Province in the Thai Northeast for allegedly trafficking nearly 20,000 methamphetamine pills, known in Thai as “Yaba”.

The suspects, identified as Khonsawan Kaeawsa and Boonhome Wongwanthong, were apprehended by a Thai narcotics police suppression unit on Mittapap Road near Nakhon Ratchasima's the Klong Phai Prison, together with 18,000 tablets of the drugs hidden in plastic bags.

According the Thai police squad, the couple confessed that they were given 90,000 baht from their neighbour to deliver the drugs to dealers in Sikiew, and that the drugs were smuggled through Thailand's northeastern Nakhon Phanom Province bordering Laos by their neighbour.

The suspected traffickers were then charged with possessing narcotics and will be prosecuted by the Thai laws. (TNA)
