Al Mahmoud : All Partners Committed to Doha Platform for Negotiations on Darfur
Doha, September 11 (QNA) - HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud has affirmed the commitment of all partners to Doha platform as a single platform for negotiations on Darfur .. Denying the existence of any platform or an alternative initiative to Doha.
HE the Minister explain in a press statement after the meeting of the Committee for Following Up the implementation of the Doha document on the peace in Darfur the desire of the United States for holding a workshop on October 27-28 to highlight positive aspects of the Doha document for the rest of the movements to push them towards peace ..
HE the Minister added : " I met two days ago, with Princeton Lyman, the US envoy for Sudan to review a paper about this workshop which will be held in the United States as not an alternative to Doha, but is call to push the movements toward peace."
He noted that today's meeting was a follow-up on implementation of the Doha document on the peace in Darfur and the participants listened to a summary by the United Nations Mission and the African Union / UNAMID / on what was done in the region.
HE the Minister Al Mahmoud also said that both the Sudanese government and the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) their viewpoints regarding work to implement this document.
HE Mr. Al-Mahmoud said that all the participants praised the positive steps taken by the Government of the Sudan and Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) and in the implementation of the Darfur Peace document.
He said that the peace process must continue, stressing at the same time the need to continue contacts with other parties to persuade them to join this document with the assurance that the document is the basis for resolving the conflict in Darfur and it is open to all.
He continued, "that peace will not wait for those who do not want peace, but peace awaits those who want peace and there are contacts with everyone."
And about whether the meeting had fixed funds to meet the urgent tasks, HE the Minister Al Mahmoud said that the participants in the meeting reviewed some matters related to emergency relief, the amounts as well as projects in the pipeline for implementation.
HE Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud said the committee agreed to hold another meeting after three months to follow up what has been achieved so far and what will happen in the future. (QNA)
