Thailand to open Royal Square in 2014 in honour of Thai King

BANGKOK, September 11 (TNA) - Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will start the construction of a “Royal Square”, locally referred to “lanchaloemphrakiat”, in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Doctor Surawit Khonsomboon said that the 1.8-billion baht-development of the five-rai "Royal Square" on Rajadamnoen Avenue in the heart of Bangkok is based on the winning entry, entitled “lan phaen din”, designed by Patchara Wongboonsin and Bhum Architect Company Limited, in a recent contest aimed at featuring the simplicity, but greatness, of His Majesty the King's name, Bhumibol.

The blueprint will involve the construction of a triangular-shaped complex, comprising three two-storey- high buildings with four basement levels to be used for exhibiting and publicizing royally-initiated activities and projects, with an extended link to Bangkok’s Pinklao subway station to facilitate public communications.
