KRC: Thailand’s moon cake sales surge on improved national situation

BANGKOK, September 10 (TNA) - The KASIKORN Research Center (KRC) has predicted that Thailand’s annual moon cake festival, which falls on September 12 this year, will spur higher consumer spending than last year, thanks to the country's improving political and economic conditions.

The Bangkok-based private think tank assessed that the country's moon cake sales should reach some 620-650 million baht in 2011, an increase of some 10-15 per cent year-on-year.

KRC noted that, despite higher seasonally adjusted prices for moon cakes, domestic demand for the delicacy, particularly among business firms, is expanding, along with local producers' constant developments of new attractive moon cake packaging.

However, the KRC warned of some negative factors which may affect this year's moon cake sales, namely the problem of rising costs of living with less spending among local households and a price hike of moon cakes by some 5-10 per cent lately. (TNA)
