KCCI, TDAP officials discuss proposals for enhancing trade and investment between Pakistan and India
Karachi, September 09, 2011 (PPI): A four member delegation of Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry participated in a meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner Shahid Malik and CEO of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Tariq Iqbal Puri at TDAP.
The delegation, consisting of President Muhammad Saeed Shafiq, Vice President Junaid Esmail Makda, and Former Presidents M. Zubair Motiwala and Majyd Aziz, presented various recommendations and proposals to enhance bilateral trade and investment between Pakistan and India.
The KCCI team proposed concrete suggestions to be discussed at the meeting between the commerce ministers of two countries. The proposals ranged from minerals, coal, textiles, and steel, etc.
Saeed Shafiq informed that joint collaboration in steel would be very profitable for both countries. The recently inked MOU between KCCI and Bombay CCI was also deliberated and efforts of Junaid Makda were appreciated.
M. Zubair Motiwala who is also Chairman Sindh Board of Investment suggested sectors in Sindh where Indians could be invited to invest.
Majyd Aziz informed that Pakistan could export up to 150,000 tons of chrome ore to ferro-chrome plants in India but due to heavy freight cost, Pakistan is missing on immediate exports of $ 45-50 million per year.
The KCCI team was very bullish about the visit of a high-powered business delegation to India led by Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Faheem and pledged full support of the Chamber.
