Thai PM meets ASEAN ambassadors

BANGKOK, September 9 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra met ambassadors of other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at Government House in Bangkok on Friday, during which she confirmed her government will cooperate with the regional neighbours to establish the ASEAN Single Community by 2015.

Government Spokeswoman Thitima Chaisaeng said that, during the meeting, Yingluck thanked the ASEAN ambassadors for their congratulations on her election as Thailand's first female prime minister and their support for her government, and that the new Thai premier also confirmed her government has been seriously promoting national reconciliation, sustainable and balanced national economic growth, international trade and investment and the formation of the ASEAN Single Community by 2015.

The government spokesperson revealed that Yingluck also praised Indonesia for its roles as the current chair of the 10-nation ASEAN bloc, saying that she foresees the success the forthcoming ASEAN summit in this November, in which US President Barack Obama will reportedly take part and ASEAN will have a good chance to boost bilateral ties and cooperation with the United States.

According to the Thai government spokeswoman, the Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand said that Jakarta is ready to cooperate with Thailand in all aspects, praising Bangkok for growing national economy and expressing his hope that ASEAN member states will be supporting the three pillars of the ASEAN Single Community, including political stability, socioeconomic strength and cultural cooperation, for the sake of the successful establishment of the ASEAN Community by 2015.

Singaporean Ambassador to Thailand Peter Chan Jer Hing, on behalf of all the ASEAN top envoys, stressed that they believe the incumbent Yingluck government will further improve the life of Thai people and play important roles in upcoming international conferences, including the ASEAN summit, the ASEAN+3 meeting, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting and the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM), insisting that Thailand will significantly boost the global development in the 21st century in political, social and cultural areas.
