Thailand to fulfill regional obligations

BANGKOK, September 9 (TNA) - The new government will fulfill all of Thailand’s obligations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)'s moves toward the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015.

New Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul made the pledge during his recent exclusive interview with Thai News Agency or TNA, saying that the new Pheu Thai Party-led government will also enhance the Kingdom's regional roles and position.

Surapong acknowledged that among the new Thai government's policies to be implemented through his ministry this year include the construction of roads and rail-links, as part of the ASEAN Master Plan on Connectivity.

According to the new foreign minister, Thailand is expected to also sponsor the ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement with other Southeast Asian countries at the next ASEAN summit, scheduled to be held in the Indonesian Bali resort Island in November 2011. (TNA)
