Gov’t committee to meet on Sept 9 to handle Thakin’s pardon petition

BANGKOK, September 8 (TNA) - An ad hoc committee formed by the Justice Ministry to handle a petition for a royal pardon for former premier Thaksin Shinawatra will convene its first meeting on Friday.
Assistant Professor Wuthisak Larpcharoensap, head of the committee, confirmed on Thursday that he would convene the panel’s first meeting at the Justice Ministry.
He assured the panel would carry out its work according to the laws, noting that it would gather and scrutinize every legal aspect and evidence, including details of petitioners and on the condition of whether the pardon could legitimately be sought in spite of not serving a jail term.
Assistant Professor Wuthisak insisted the Corrections Department and Justice Ministry were both duty-bound to handle any petition to His Majesty the King, saying as the court already ruled on Thaksin’s case, no one could delay or stop the petition process. (TNA)
