Severe floods grip Thailand, threaten more cities
BANGKOK, September 8 (TNA) - Floods have remained severe in Thailand, with more cities told to stay alert for possible inundations.
In northern Lamphun province, flooding had spread across three districts of Muang Lamphun, Pasang and Banthi, submerging local roads.
Heavy downpours had sent the water level of the Mae Kuang River climbing to new heights, prompting more evacuation along riverside communities.
In Phichit province, excessive runoffs from the Phetchabun mountain range had wrought even more devastation to central business areas. Shopkeepers there had resorted to build concrete floodwalls to further protect their premises.
Over two metres deep flooding had also remained in Nakhon Sawan province’s worse-hit Chum-saeng district.
However, in Chiang Mai province, many people had already begun their clean-up work, although with low-lying houses still slightly inundated. The water level in the Ping river flowing through the city center had also dropped to its normal level. (TNA)
