Thailand prepared to become Asian medical hub

BANGKOK, September 8 (TNA) - Thailand is preparing to become a medical hub in Asia in the foreseeable future.

New Thai Public Health Minister Wittaya Buranasiri inaugurated the Public Health Ministry's symposium 2011 on all-out good health for Thai people, in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the auspicious occasion of the beloved Thai monarch's 84th birthday on December 5, 2011, in the country's eastern Chonburi Province on Thursday, as part of national preparations for the Kingdom to become a regional medical centre.

Wittaya said that the three-day symposium, from September 7-9 in which more than 4,000 doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmaceutics, scientists and public health officials are taking part, is aimed to further develop the country's medical and public health personnel in accordance with the government's policy on paving the way for Thailand to be upgraded as a medical hub in Asia in the near future.

The new public health minister also met representatives of industrial plants at the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong Province to discuss health problems related to the eastern Thai industrial hub, saying that his ministry will join forces with agencies concerned, including the Thai Ministries of Industry and Natural Resources and Environment, as well as local business operators, villagers and academics, to work out model resolutions to the Map Ta Phut-related problems.
