Thai PM inspects flood situation in Chai Nat Province
CHAI NAT, September 8 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Wednesday continued her flood inspection trip to Chai Nat province, while ordering the Irrigation Department to manage discharges from the Chao Phraya Dam efficiently to downsize flood impacts.
Yingluck, who was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit and Defence Minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa, acknowledged the flood crisis had already affected some 115 villages and over 35 square kilometers of farmland in Chai Nat’s five districts, with Sapphaya district being the hardest-hit area.
Yingluck added that she had been informed by the Irrigation Department that the Chao Phraya Dam currently catered some 2,528 cubic meters of water inflow per second, causing low-lying areas beyond flood prevention dykes to become affected.
The Thai premier said so far she had ordered provincial governors in flood-hit areas to speed up assistance to the people, while urging those in the central plains to prepare for peak runoffs from the country’s north and the northeast. (TNA)
