Doha Centre for Media Freedom to Assist in Boosting Free Media in Libya

Doha, September 06 (QNA) - Libyan society has been severely repressed and heavily censored for decades during the regime of Colonel Gaddafi. The call for freedom  of the media - was one of the motives of the revolution.
The Doha Centre  for Media Freedom (DCMF) is taking the initiative to announce an emergency plan  to help the Libyan people to realize its aspirations of free expression and publish and broadcast without fear, a DCMF release said.
The  Doha Centre for Media freedom will sport  Libyan media, civil society and NTC in creating free, reliable and viable media and realize a sustainable system of press freedom.
DCMF Director-General Jan Keulen and an accompanying delegation will travel to Libya  shortly to consult Libyan  media leaders and NTC authorities. A plan will be drawn up for journalism training and technical assistance.
The Doha Centre for Media Centre is also interested in supporting  local radio stations to fulfill their humanitarian mission, especially in the field of localizing  missing persons and reuniting families.
The Doha Centre for Media Freedom is the first Arab press freedom organization to be actively involved in an emergency program of media support in the new Libya. The Centre will coordinate and cooperate with other international organizations to support the efforts of the Libyan people to create free and independent media and put guarantees in press freedom.
