Samsung Securities denies possible investment in Lehman
SEOUL, Sept. 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's leading brokerage house Samsung Securities Co. said Monday it does not have an interest in investing in the Asian operations of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., dismissing foreign reports of its possible investment.
Reuters said earlier in the day that officials of Samsung Securities were in Hong
Kong over the weekend to discuss a possible investment in Lehman's Asian arms.
"A high-level official took a business trip to Hong Kong, but it was for
recruitment there in a move to expand the business in the Hong Kong unit of
Samsung. We do not have an interest in investing in Lehman for now," an official
at Samsung Securities said.
Former U.S. No. 5 investment bank Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy last week,
sending a shockwave through global markets.
The Financial Times reported that Standard Chartered Plc, Barclays Plc and
Japan's Nomura Holdings are battling to acquire the Asian operations of Lehman.
