Thai cabinet offers 5,000 baht for each flood-affected family

BANGKOK, September 6 (TNA) - The Thai cabinet has approved a compensation plan that will give 5,000 baht to each family affected by the latest flood crisis.

Speaking after her cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said the cabinet ruled out the proposed 5,500 baht alternative as some victims had already been compensated with the 5,000 baht rate.

Yingluck also said the cabinet resolved to shift in the payment deadline for owners of flood damaged crops to 60 days from the earlier 90-day limit, saying she expected payments to be made by this month.

The Thai premier added that she had instructed provincial authorities to quickly assess flood impacts on the local people, and urged ministers and MPs to visit their respective flood-hit provinces to support local residents. (TNA)
