Rubber farmers rally at Yingluck's residence

BANGKOK, September 6 (TNA) - Rubber farmers rallied at Premier Yingluck Shinwatra’s residence on Tuesday to demand a graft probe against the government’s Office of Rubber Replanting Aid Fund (ORRAF).

Deputy Chairperson of the Rubber Holder Cooperatives Federation of Thailand, Somporn Sangsomboon, led the gathering with over 60 people as he pointed to the ORRAF’s alleged fraud procurement of some 30,000 tons of chemical fertilizers.

Somporn said that his group believed the fertilizers were of sub-standard quality or even fake.

He also demanded punishment to officials responsible for the 800,000-rai rubber plantation project for 2011, which he claimed, had failed to deliver rubber seedlings to participating farmers.

Updated reports said the group later travelled to Government House to file their complaint with Major General Tawat Boonfuang, the deputy secretary-general to the prime minister. (TNA)
