5.5 million people to enjoy minimum daily wage rise to 300 baht

BANGKOK, September 6 (TNA) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) says at least 5.5 million workers are believed to benefit from the government’s 300 baht daily minimum wage policy.
Chairman of the FTI, Payungsak Chartsutipol, gave the figures on Tuesday citing a report from the Ministry of Labour on benefits of the proposed wage hike.
Payungsak pointed however, that the private sector, particularly Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), would likely need 3-4 years to make necessary adjustments to the policy.
To this extent, he said the FTI would work with agencies concerned to minimize the impact, saying he had already consulted with Labour Ministry officials on the feasibility of a tax waive for SMEs to offset higher labour costs. He noted that in two weeks time, FTI representatives would convene with Labour Minister Padermchai Sasomsap to discuss the matter further. (TNA)
