Fruit trade along Thai-Cambodian border active

BANGKOK, September 6 (TNA) - The volume of border fruit trade in Thailand’s eastern province of Chanthaburi during the May-September period has reached 500 million baht, thanks to continued strong demand from Cambodia and Vietnam.

Chairman of the Thai-Cambodian Border Trade and Tourism Association Isiwut Tangkiat confirmed the trade figures on Tuesday, acknowledging, however, that the volume dropped by some 100 million baht from 2010.

Isawut said fruit trade on the Chanthaburi border had remained sound, with fruits, largely coming from Thailand’s southern region, sold in hundreds of tons daily despite the fact that the local fruit season had already ended.

He noted that local fruit trade had continued to receive up to 20-30 tons of fruit orders from Cambodia and Vietnam daily, with mangosteen and durian listed high on top. (TNA)
