Thailand's private firms agree to cut prices

BANGKOK, September 5 (TNA) - Thailand's private firms have agreed to cut prices of five products for local consumers, in line with cheaper fuel prices, effective from later this week.
New Thai Deputy Commerce Minister Poom Sarapol told reporters of the new move, after meeting with representatives of local producers of over 200 items of consumer products, that the five products whose prices will be reduced include cement by 5-10 baht per 50-kilogram-bag, roof tiles by 5 baht each, chemical fertilizers by 5-8 baht per bag, flour by 10 baht per bag and water pumps by 100-200 baht per unit.
Poom said he has been informed by local producers of consumers' daily necessities, namely toothpaste, soaps, detergent, food products and drinks that they will freeze their prices until at least the end of this year. (TNA)
