No Thais affected by Typhoon Talas in Japan: MOF

BANGKOK, September 5 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported Monday that no Thai nationals have been affected by powerful Typhoon Talas, which made landfall in Japan last Saturday.

Deputy Director-General of the ministry’s Department of Information Jetsada Katawethin cited reports from the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Osaka as confirming that there have been no Thai casualties from Typhoon Talas, which have ravaged several western Japanese prefectures, leaving many deaths, missing and injuries, before downgrading into a tropical storm currently.

Nevertheless, the senior official said that the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Osaka will continue monitoring updated developments closely through the Thai community in the hardest-hit Japanese prefectures, namely Wakayama, Nara and Mie, located near Osaka.

Meanwhile, Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul has extended a condolence message to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a flood crisis and a dam collapse in the African country's south-western region on August 26, which has claimed over 100 lives and left several others homeless.
