One killed, two injured in Pattani prison riot
BANGKOK, September 5 (TNA) - A riot broke out Monday in Pattani Central Prison in southern Thailand, killing an inmate and injuring two others.
The mutiny took place at around 8 a.m. local time when some 50 inmates rose in protest against poor living conditions and unfair treatment by wardens.
Preliminary reports identified them as having been transferred from prisons in Narathiwat and Yala Provinces.
Deputy Governor of Pattani Province Lertkiat Wongphothiphan meanwhile, said he was now negotiating with the group to calm tensions.
There were no reported building damages at the compound, while an investigation on casualties was underway. (TNA)
