Thailand's auto parts industry adopts clean & green technology

BANGKOK, September 5 (TNA) - Thailand's auto-parts industry has adopted and implemented the so-called clean & green technology project, aimed to upgrade its production process and boost productivity with environmentally-friendly means, in preparation for the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015 and relocations of more foreign auto parts manufacturers into the Thai economy, particularly those from Japan.

Athit Wuthikaro, Director General of the Thai Ministry of Industry's Department of Industrial Promotion, told reporters that his department has sought cooperation from Bangkok-based Kasetsart Univerity and King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok when introducing the clean and green technology to local auto-parts manufacturing plants.

Athit said that the pilot project, in which 50 local auto-part manufacturers have taken part, has been apparently successful, as the participating plants have saved their production costs from the improved production process by 41 per cent on average and increased their productivity by some three folds, noting that some participating plants have even been able to reduce their production costs by 100 per cent so far.

The Department of Industrial Promotion chief presided over a ceremony this morning to present an honourable certificate to the local auto-parts manufacturers, which have successfully adopted and utilised the environmentally-friendly technology, encouraging them to be prototyped plants for other auto-parts manufacturers and to create cooperative networks with other manufacturers and relevant parties in their respective areas.
