MILLIONS TO TRAVEL FOR POST-FASTING HOLIDAYS

Bandar Lampung, Sept 21 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Transportation Minister Jusman Syafei Djamal said he estimated that up to 26 million people in the country would be travelling for the post-Islamic holiday of Idul Fitr that would fall on the first of October.

"The number of travellers using public transportation means or private cars are predicted to increase this year," the minister said after inspecting the railway station here on Sunday.
The majority of the Indonesian people are Moslems. They have a tradition of visiting relatives and friends on the post-fasting holidays.
The minister said the number of people who would travel by public transport was estimated to reach 15.8 million, a rise of 0.86 percent compared to last year's, while the number of people who would travel by motorbikes or private cars would estimatedly reach 10 to 11 million.
"The number of people who would travel by land is predicted to reach nine million while million others would travel by sea or air," he said.
He said six million of the nine million people who would travel by land would use buses and the rest train.
