Qatar s Dahlan Al Hamad Attends IAAF Council's First Meeting
Daegu, S.Korea, September 04 (QNA) - Qatar S Dahlan Jumman al Hamad, the vice-president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) participated in the first meeting of the IAAF's Council chaired by the IAAF's President Senegal's Lamine Diack .
The meeting was also attended by Diac's three deputies and the rest of the 27 representatives included in the new council which term extends till 2015.
The participants were briefed on the topics tabled on the agenda including approval of the files of world countries candidates for the World Cup for Athletics, 2017 .The race was confined between " Doha and London" files or applications after the withdrawal of Barcelona , Spain, from the race .
The attendants also discussed the World Championships Indoor 2014, and World Championship Marathon 2014, where it will identift the States winning the right to host the meeting of the International Federation in Monaco city during the period from 9 until 11 November
Senegal's Lamine Diack , who was overwhelmingly re-elected president of the International Association of Athletics Federation, expressed confidence that Doha is quite capable of hosting any world sport event , referring meantime to the 2017 Mondeal which he said might take place in a different date than the agreed upon date of August.
It is worth mentioning that Doha and London are the sole candidates to 2017 edition whereas the next edition will be held in Moscow in 2013 and in Beijing in 2015.
Serving the IAAF Council since 1976, the Senegalese became the chief for the first time in 1999 and is standing unchallenged for his final term of four years.
Chaired by Diack, the IAAF Council met in Daegu to consolidate the past gains and outline the future strategy to make athletics more appealing and stronger to athletes, spectators and sponsors. It will also elect the Council members and members of various individual committees during the election on next two days.
The IAAF Council also made a historic decision to give more representation to women. Now there will be six women gracing the Council instead of four, without increasing the original council members at 27.
"Conscious of the need to further cement our desire to expand the foundations of our sport s collective management, we made a decision that was both historically significant and brave, resolving to increase the number of female members of the IAAF Council from four to six, without increasing the total number of Council members, which remains set at twenty-seven ," Diack said.
