Thai PM discusses flood solutions with nine provincial governors
BANGKOK, September 4 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has attended a meeting with nine governors of flood-stricken provinces to review flooding situations and seek for long-term solutions, while the situations remain critical in many provinces of Thailand.
According to MCOT.net, the meeting was convened on Sunday afternoon by Prime Minister's secretary-general Bunthoon Supakkawanich and Permanent Secretary for Interior Wichien Chavalit.
Participations included the governors of Sukhothai, Phichit, Angthong, Chainat, Nakhon Sawan Ayutthaya, Singburi, Phisanulok and Ubon Ratchathani Provinces as well as Director-General of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, representatives from the Comptroller General’s Department, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Public Health Ministry, the Royal Thai Army.
Meanwhile, in Ang Thong Province, floods prevailed in three districts of Pa Moke, Wiset Chai Charn and Muang Ang Thong. Some areas were submerged under two meters deep floodwaters. A disabled man was rescued by border patrol police and soldiers from his flooded-house and safely transmitted to Pa Moke Hospital.
Having received a large amount of water from its upstream tributaries, Yom River overflowed its banks, flooding a vast area of Sam Ngam District of Phichit Province. The flooding also turned Ban Noen Yung village in Rangnok Sub-district into an island surrounded by three meters deep floodwaters.
In Phitsanulokn Province, overflowing Wang Thong River caused a widespread flooding in Bang Krathum District’s Noen Kum Sub-district, forcing local people to move their belongings and pets to high ground. (TNA)
