Thailand's Koh Mak to be transformed to be “Green Island”

BANGKOK, September 3 (TNA) - Thailand's Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) is transforming Koh Mak in the country's eastern resort Trat Province to be a "green island".

DASTA Director General Nalikatibhag Sangsnit said the 33-million-baht project will turn the 13-square-kilometre Koh Mak into a renewable energy zone with the promotion of several environmentally-friendly activities, namely biking.

Nalikatibhag revealed that the DASTA will also send a team to study similar eco-tourist projects in Denmark and Germany, as the public organisation plans to showcase the eastern Thai resort island as a low carbon destination in the ITB Berlin 2012, an international trade show set to be held in Germany in March next year, to attract more European tourist arrivals in Thailand.
