Pranab for zero tolerance against terrorism

Baharampur (WB), Sep 21 (PTI) The international community must adopt zero tolerance towards acts of terrorism, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Sunday.

Terming Saturday's suicide attack on 5-star Marriott
hotel in Islamabad as a 'sad incident', Mukherjee told
reporters here that India is always averse to acts of terror.

"India condemns such acts of destruction and terrorism
in any country of the world," Mukherjee said.

Replying to a question, the minister said terrorist
activities could not be stopped by framing laws.

Mukherjee took a dig at opposition parties which have
criticised the Congress-led UPA government for allegedly being
'soft on terror' in the wake of the recent serial blasts in
Bangalore, Ahmedabad and New Delhi.

He reminded critics that anti-terror laws such as POTA
and TADA under the previous NDA regime, failed to contain
terrorism.

He said that POTA in force during the NDA regime could
not prevent the terrorist attack on Parliament in December
2001, nor could it prevent the attack on the Akshardham
temple in Gujarat.

Instead, he said there was a need for uniting people
against such acts of destruction and cowardice. PTI CORR
