IM was planning to strike terror in the capital: police

New Delhi, Sep 21 (PTI) The Indian Mujahideen was planning to strike terror in the national capital in a big way by exploding at least 20 bombs in several parts of the city, including prominent commercial complex of Nehru Place, police said Sunday.

The disclosure came after the arrest of three more
suspected militants, allegedly involved in the serial blasts
in the city and other parts of the country, from Jamia Nagar
early this morning.

Nehru Place, a prominent commercial hub of the capital
which is known for shops selling computer components, was one
of the main targets of the Indian Mujahideen besides other
localities which were not disclosed by police.

"Their main aim was to target crowded places so that the
blasts could result in large casualty...Their general feeling
was that something should happen continuously and there should
not be any vacuum in their activities," Deputy Commissioner of
Police (South) H. G. S. Dhaliwal told reporters.

Zia-ur-Rehman, Shakir Nisar and Mohammad Shakil were
arrested early this morning from Jamia Nagar, the locality
where two terrorist, including the "main man" and the
mastermind of Delhi blasts, Atif, were killed in a gun battle
with police on Friday.

Police also arrested Abdul Rehman, the caretaker of Batla
House where the terrorists were residing on charges of
cheating and forgery. Rehman, the father of the arrested Zia,
allegedly forged the signature of the owner of the house.

The three suspects were remanded in police custody for 14
days by a Delhi court.

Shakil was a student of Jamia University where he was
pursuing second year MA (Economics) while Zia was a student of
third year BA in the same institution. Nisar was doing an MBA
through a distance education course from Sikkim Manipal
University. PTI SJY
