Abhisit demands explanation for reassignment of police chief, NSC secretary-general
BANGKOK, September 2 (TNA) - Former Thai Premier Abhisit Vejjajiva is calling for an explanation from the government on its plan of reassigning the police chief and secretary-general of the National Security Council.
Abhisit made known his demand on Friday after the new Pheu Thai Party-led government announced it would move Police General Wichien Potepohsri to his new post as secretary-general of the NSC.
Abhisit said he had not overlooked the possibility of the policy chief reshuffle in the past, but commented that it was unfair for the incumbent NSC secretary-general Thawil Pliensri. Abhisit claimed there had been no sufficient clarification on the grounds of his transfer, including on what would be his new post.
Abhisit questioned if the move was intended to help clear the road for the promotion of Deputy Police Chief Police General Priewpan Damapong, the elder sibling of Pojaman Na Pompet, the ex-wife of former Premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
The Democrat Party leader also called on all parties advocating for a justified legal system to stand guard over the fate of the NSC secretary general. (TNA)
